The ideal candidate for this paid internship is an organized, responsible, critical thinker who is fluent in Chicago’s alternative, non-profit, and temporary exhibition landscape. Applicants should have an awareness of Chicago Artist Writers’ manifesto and content, and have an interest in artist-generated critical discourse.

Duties include assembling material for a monthly newsletter (experience with Mailchimp a plus), assisting with new project initiatives, web content pre-production and editing, and posting on social media. Copyediting skills are essential.

Founded by artists Sofia Leiby and Jason Lazarus in 2012, Chicago Artist Writers is a platform that asks artists and art workers to contribute a spectrum of traditional to experimental criticism that serves non-profit, temporary, and alternative arts programming in Chicago.

CAW recently completed a residency at the Luminary Art Center (St Louis, MO) in 2014. It has hosted lectures at Gallery 400 and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and appeared as a featured interview on the Bad at Sports podcast. Support for this project was provided by The Propeller Fund, a joint administrated grant from Threewalls and Gallery 400 at The University of Illinois at Chicago.
