Call for art reviews: Chicago Artist Writers
Chicago Artist Writers, a new platform for criticism co-directed by Jason Lazarus and Sofia Leiby, seeks primarily students or recent graduates of BFA or MFA programs to submit short reviews of exhibitions at Chicago-based alternative, temporary, and nonprofit spaces.
CAW seeks to address the gap in critically addressing Chicago’s dynamic, vibrant, and diverse array of artistic activity.
Reviews may be traditional or experimental, should be limited to 500 words, and include no more than three images (500 pixels wide and accompanied by appropriate image credit information).
CAW seeks reviews on an ongoing basis. Reviews that are submitted within ten days of the exhibition’s opening date will be prioritized.
Submitted reviews will be guest edited by a wide range of cultural producers, critics, and art workers in Chicago. If a submission is chosen for publishing, it will be sent to guest editors for editing and refinement. Once completed, the collaboration with the guest editor will be published and publicly open for comments.
Criticism will be posted on an ongoing basis on our website, chicagoartistwriters.blogspot.com.
Guest editors for the fall season include Brandon Alvendia, Zachary Kaplan, Jenny Kendler, Heidi Norton, Abigail Satinsky, and Nicholas Wylie.
Interested parties should send an email consisting of a short summary of the proposed content of their review to chicagoartistwriters@gmail.com.
